Social Media & Digital Content Creator

Reports to:  Director of Communications 

Location: San Antonio

Job Type: Full time/Hybrid 

About CAST Schools Network: 

The Centers for Applied Science and Technology is a 501(c)3 network of public-partnership schools working with San Antonio area independent school districts. The CAST mission is to reinvent schooling to maximize options for students, while preparing them for the jobs of the future. CAST has 7 schools in four school districts; the nonprofit is governed by a board representing industry and civic leaders. The nonprofit executive team is made up of the Executive Director, the Senior Partnership Director, Development Director and the Marketing and Communications Director.

Position Summary:

CAST Schools is seeking a creative, digitally savvy Social Media & Digital Content Creator to lead the development of engaging content that tells the CAST story across social media and digital platforms.

This role will focus primarily on social media strategy and content creation , while also using photography and video skills to capture the people, experiences, achievements, and culture that make CAST Schools unique. The ideal candidate understands how to create content that is authentic, visually compelling, and designed for today's digital audiences. They should be comfortable taking a story from concept to capture, editing, publishing, and performance analysis. 

Key Responsibilities:

Social Media

  • Develop and execute engaging social media content across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other relevant platforms.
  • Manage and maintain social media content calendar for the main CAST Schools Social media pages and coordinate with school interns for school content. 
  • Create platform-specific content that reflects CAST's brand, voice, and mission.
  • Write compelling captions, headlines, scripts, and other social copy.
  • Monitor social media trends and emerging content formats.
  • Identify opportunities to increase engagement, reach, and awareness of CAST Schools.
  • Track social media performance and use analytics to inform future content.
  • Help grow CAST's online community and strengthen relationships with students, families, staff, alumni, and community partners.

Photography & Video

  • Capture high-quality photography and video at CAST campuses, classrooms, events, and community activities.
  • Produce engaging short-form video content, including Reels, TikToks, and other social-first formats.
  • Edit video content for social media, including captions, music, graphics, and transitions.
  • Photograph students, educators, events, and school experiences in an authentic and compelling way.
  • Maintain and organize a library of photography and video assets.
  • Travel to CAST campuses and events as needed to capture content.

Storytelling

  • Proactively identify compelling stories happening across CAST Schools.
  • Interview students, educators, alumni, and community partners to develop engaging content.
  • Develop creative concepts and campaigns that highlight CAST's programs, student achievements, culture, and impact.
  • Collaborate with campus teams to identify and capture storytelling opportunities.

Collaboration & Brand

  • Ensure social media and digital content aligns with CAST's brand identity and messaging.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team on campaigns and organizational initiatives.
  • Support enrollment, recruitment, events, community engagement, development and other organizational campaigns through social media content creation. 
  • Work with school staff and leadership to coordinate photography, video, and content opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, digital media, journalism, advertising, or a related field, required.
  • 5 years of experience in social media, digital marketing, content creation, communications, or a related field, required.
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms for an organization, brand, school, nonprofit, or business.
  • Strong understanding of social media strategy, trends, audience engagement, and digital storytelling.
  • Must have strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Demonstrated photography and video production experience.
  • Experience creating and editing short-form video for social media.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, CapCut, or similar platforms.
  • Strong visual awareness and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize deadlines, and work independently.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in education, nonprofit, youth-focused, or community-based organizations.
  • Proficient with Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, or After Effects.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics and scheduling platforms.
  • Experience with project management tools such as Asana.
  • Experience with content management systems and website content.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience photographing and filming in school or community environments.
